Finally I can share some pictures of the project i've been working on for the past two weeks. Thursday the 17th was the official launch party and first runway fashion show by Turk and Taylor. I was so excited to be asked to do the styling for their show. We showed fall 2011, followed by spring 2012. In all there were 42 looks that were sent down the runway. The party and show was a smashing success!! the place was packed with press, buyers, family and friends. What a great night! Here's the first edition of behind the scenes shots. --change of looks for Kristina as about 8 new spring pieces arrived less then 2 hours before the show.(one dress showed up 15 minutes before it was supposed to walk the runway..of course)Minus the jeans and boots, this was the opening look for spring

Walter!! Walter is one of Turk and Taylor's patternmaker. He also made the bags and belts for the show along with sewing the opening spring circle skirt. All within 3-4 days before the show! I couldnt have done this show without him as he helped me with the fittings and backstage the day of the show. I love Walter!!Here he is directing the models as they step onto the runway

Super excited to announce i am doing the styling for the Turk + Taylor offical launch party and fashion show on thursday November 17th froom 6-9. There will be booze, music, food trucks and great fashion!! The pre and after party will be held a the Steven Wolf Fine Arts Gallery at 19th and Bryant. The runway show will be held at the Guerrero Gallery across the street. Turk + Taylor will first present a sampling of their current Fall collection and then will move right into their amazing Spring 2012 collection. I am very excited to be a part of this, we did the first round of model castings on monday and we got some cuties!Be sure to check out the online Turk + Taylor store!!

Our first big sewing project this semester was to take a minimum of 2, maximum of 4 pieces from the thrift store or closet and remake them into something totally different.BEFORE: this is/was a romper skort. ewwwww. sorry but i hate a skort.

AFTER: i turned this into a cute(my opinion) lil draped dress.

cut into an asymmetrical hem.

pulled up the front skort pieces,it created a quite nice and layered drape

Ive been experimenting with fabric braiding. done to the straps

Piece 2 BEFORE: rayon batik mooooo mooooo

AFTER: Asymmetrical exaggerated dolmen sleeve blouse

took out the sleeve inseam and drafted a gusset just the right size for the underarm to drape nicely

made binding tape from bottom of the fabric to finish the bottom edge of the blouse

Deep in the redwoods is the perfect place for a Pendleton fotoshoot. Still inspired from a trip we took to Portland almost a year ago, Liz and I both made our very own Pendleton jackets. I found my remenents at a local fabric store stuffed in the corner of their epic wool section. Liz sourced hers from the woolen mill on a trip she took to Portland a few weeks ago. Mine, a raglan sleeve bomber, hers, overall wool with black leather sleeves and trim. They look perfectly at home amongst the prehistoric redwoods.

Thursday proved to be a perfect afternoon in oakland for some backyard fabric dyeing. This was the first time for me. Trial by error, mistakes made beautiful and some just plain wrong. Lil sara doin it. gettin weird.

This year in school ill have to design and sew my own mini collection. So i thought id try to dye some yardage i could use.
Hickory stripe accordion dyed. Before i rinsed it

after the rinse. im pretty stoked on how it turned out.

Scrunch method on the polka dot pattern. I like how certain parts of this turned out, i'll be able to use some bits from this. I think ill try the accordion style on this fabric next time.

And this one hah well....... it looks like i spilled wine on my fabric. Which isnt too far from what could happen. Live and learn.
